When Lawrence Williams founded our company in 1937, many homes in the Northeast were still heated using coal, a labor-intensive and dirty fuel. In 1937, oil heat was the newest thing, an “automatic” heating method that eliminated the drudgery and mess of coal. Scott Williams began as a dealership for Timken boilers—then the "Rolls Royce" of oil heat equipment.
Oil heat represented a sea change in how home heating was perceived. Just as the transition from radio to TV and from typewriter to PC took some getting used to, once the technology was available, oil heat was widely embraced. Homeowners quickly "warmed" to oil heat, with the comfort of knowing that they would never again have to shovel coal into a furnace. Who could have imagined before that day that you could have a heater in your home that would magically switch on when it got cold?
As more and more homes and businesses made the switch from coal to oil heat, it occurred to Lawrence Williams and his partner that they should get into the business of selling fuel oil as well as oil burners and boilers. They bought their first truck about a year after starting the company.
Following World War II, oil became the home heating fuel of choice, and Scott Williams began to grow. Through salesmanship and several key acquisitions over the years, Scott Williams is now one of the largest home comfort companies in the South Shore area.
Today, Scott Williams delivers fuel oil to over 4,000 homes and businesses. We have installed thousands of new, high-efficiency heating systems, air conditioning systems and water heaters. Our service technicians are certified experts at maintaining and repairing virtually any brand of heating or cooling equipment.
As we look to the future and explore new ways to keep you comfortable while reducing the impact on our environment, we remain focused on the needs of our customers and making your energy costs easier to manage. |
